I haven't  been *successful*. I haven't tried either.

The S-video output depends on the configuration of X, your graphic card, 
the graphic card driver (ATI? NVIDIA?) and perhaps the bios. Playing 
with those settings you should be able to set it up. Read the 
documentation of the Linux driver of your graphic card (if any). Also, 
google / look for TV-out in addition to S-video.

As for the touchpad, the first question would be, how do you disable the 
touchpad without restarting the X server?
