Hi John T,
I have Toshiba satellite L10-102 on mandriva 2006 power pack
In fact any distribution not suport smart battery system just yet.(I know so)
I can get battery and ac-adaptor status and settings from a patch to kernel 
and rebuild kernel.

all files and ways there are.
