The best, most direct way to get a performance boost of this nature is 
to add more RAM to your machine.
The video card in laptops grabs system memory for its own use and as a 
result can cause quite a performance drain
on the OS. IE, if you have a 128 MB video card in a machine that has 512 
MB ram installed, you will only have 384 MB
available for all other operations.
