Thank you Manuel and the others guys who responded and tried to help. 
This was useless, though. On the toshutil site 
(http://www.buzzard.me.uk/toshiba/) I found this sentence, which I had 
omitted in the first place:

"These models sport Pheonix BIOS'es and are made in that part of China 
that is not part of China. In short they are not /true/ Toshiba laptops 
and are unlikely to ever be supported by the Toshiba Linux Utilities."

This is my university's laptop, I had no influence on purchasing it. The 
preinstalled Windows xp home on the other partition works, perhaps 
because of plenty of Toshiba software running in the background.
