That ACPI doesn't work is not the end of the world: It seems some people 
were able to get a few things working [1][2][3].

Anyway, you should persevere a little bit more. Giving up easily won't 
take you far in life. Keep in mind that the solutions applied by others 
in Gentoo, Debian or any other distribution may also be useful in other 
distributions. So if someone installed FreeBSD in a similar laptop, read 
how they did it carefully.

Finally, don't let this happen again. Even if you cannot change the 
laptop, you report the issue for future purchases.

P.S.: Of course, you may dedicate some of your time to create an acpi 
driver for Phoenix BIOS like someone did with toshutil. I am sure they 
will tell you how they started. If you know little about computers and 
don't want to learn more, then you may organise a petition to ask 
Toshiba support for these BIOS or to release specs so someone can make a 
driver [
