[tlinux-users:07712] Sound Problem with Satellite A105

I have installed the latest distro of Ubuntu on my Satellite A105.
Everything is working week, except for a couple of problems.

The first and most important issue for me is that my sound is very
scratchy/staticy.

I tried downloading and installing the latest ALSA package, but this does
not help.

I am not able to access ALSA tools or utils, even though they were installed
as part of the package.

Sound is fine under Windows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
