I also have a Toshiba notebook with a Phoenix BIOS(it is a Satellite L10-202). I run SUSE 10 on it for several months. I have no info about the battery but most of the functions seem to work. For temperature you could use the command cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature (i hope this is it). On my laptop the temperature reaches 55 degrees Celsius. Some of the function keys don't work but the display brightness and activate/deactivate touchpad are OK. I know that there is a patch for the kernel to make the SBS (Smart Battery System). John, after you do your installation, you should download the little
program simply called fan for toshiba linux machines. It was written by
the same guy that wrote the Tuxtime utils. Have a look here:
