Your programs start up after GRUB, as GRUB dictates which operating
system to load, which must load before any applications. GRUB does not
need to know about applications.

I am running a Satellite 2405-S201 with XP Pro that dual boots to
Debian Sarge. Though I struggle with some drivers on the Linux side,
everything works perfectly well under Windows, including Windows Media
Player and iTunes.

Do you have problems with any other programs of any kind? How much
free space do you show in your Windows partition?

It sounds to me that if you had really mangled your Windows partition,
you would have bigger problems than just getting EMP to work. If your
machine is operating well otherwise, just go ahead and reinstall EMP.
