i   tried   mod probing by varying ectype from 0 to  20 , but there is no
changes  in brightness  at any  value of ectype
also  redacting  the value to  lcd file instead of appending it to  lcd
file.

You can remove it with modprobe -r omnibook

I am using debian etch  which  has 2.6.18 kernel  , is there any  other
 way to fix this problem.
