Hello Stefanus,

I have Ubuntu 7.04 installed in my Toshiba Tecra A6. However, I haven't
tested my modem, just because I have network connections at home and at
work.

I did have modem issues about a year ago, when I used to run Puppy Linux
2.11 in a previous computer I had. It did recognize my soft modem, but when
I tried the GUI front end for wvdial, it wouldn't work. I had to open a
terminal session and configure it manually (with a little help from the
Puppy files) and that did the trick.

Since we're talking Ubuntu in Toshibas, I'd like to tell you all what I've
found so far:

SATA HD: OK
DVD READ: OK
CD Write: OK
USB Sticks: OK
Palm Synchro: OK!
Panasonic DMC-LS70 camera: didn't work at first, then updated my system,
then it did work, then I tried to install webcam drivers, now it doesn't
work again.
5-in-1 media reader: Doesn't work. Ubuntu recognized it when I booted my
system with my SD card inserted, but I don't think that's the way it should
work.
D-Link webcam: Doesn't work. I tried three different programs from the
Ubuntu repositories (using Synaptic), none worked.
HP printers: OK
Lexmark 1270 multifunction printer: not tested yet. However, I've read
there's a driver that can let me print, but nothing to let me scan with this
model.

Warmest greetings from Peru,

Oswaldo Bellido

Asunto: [tlinux-users:08523] Installing Ubuntu 7.04 Linux on Toshiba Portege
M100

Dear all,

I have been installed my Toshiba Portege M100 with Ubuntu 7.04.
Everything going well,
but, there is several devices that I cannot use until now.

1. Modem
2. Infrared

when i run scanModem tools from linmodem, it says that the suitable
driver for this Toshiba Portege M100 is slmodemd.
I try to install it via Synaptic, from Ubuntu DVD Repository.
It's running well when I run
root@DreamLaptop:~# /usr/sbin/slmodemd --alsa -c INDONESIA modem:1
SmartLink Soft Modem: version 2.9.9e-pre1 Mar 20 2007 14:45:09
symbolic link `/dev/ttySL0' -> `/dev/pts/0' created.
modem `modem:1' created. TTY is `/dev/pts/0'
Use `/dev/ttySL0' as modem device, Ctrl+C for termination.

and, when I run wvdialconf, the modem is respond well.
ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 2400 baud, next try: 9600 baud
ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- OK
ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 Z -- OK
ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 -- OK
ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 -- OK
ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 -- OK
ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 -- OK
ttySL0<*1>: Modem Identifier: ATI -- SmartLink Soft Modem
ttySL0<*1>: Speed 19200: AT -- OK
ttySL0<*1>: Speed 38400: AT -- OK
ttySL0<*1>: Speed 57600: AT -- OK
ttySL0<*1>: Speed 115200: AT -- OK
ttySL0<*1>: Speed 230400: AT -- OK
ttySL0<*1>: Speed 460800: AT -- OK
ttySL0<*1>: Max speed is 460800; that should be safe.
ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 -- OK

Found a modem on /dev/ttySL0.

but, when I try to connect to internet, the modem is not responding, and
it's not dialling.

can you give me the solution please ??

and if you have information about the infrared, please tell me.
I found information about Toshiba Portege M100 on smc-init website, but
still I cannot config my infrared

please help me.....
