You forgot to write down your Toshiba Model Number; i.e., for example,
por ejemplo A135-S2376 where in this example the 's' stands for
Satellite.

I use Slackware, downloaded the iso for the 11.0 which was for kernel
2.4.33.3 but included in extras header, include files, etc specific
files, and source for 2.6.17.13 which I needed for indeed my
a135-s2376 with the m520 celeron processor.

You could also look at the 12.0 issue which is all 2.6.x.x and was
just released.

In looking for solutions for my problems with sound I saw many
references to the Ubuntu feisty and etchy and this stuff about
'=3stack' which excuse me if I'am wrong was incorrect and not
necessary, and people had fluttery sound a sign perhaps of interrupt
problems.

Get the latest release of Alsa, insure all necessary tar files are of
same revision number - no mixes of versions!, compile, the sources
until the system works but in devices do not use ./snddevices per the
writeup for kernel 2.6.x.x. Compile the kernel ensure the usb sound
modules options are checked 'm' or such, ensure ALSA selections are
checked as this is now a option in menuconfig. Also the steps for
compile were a little different than before. [make mrproper (watch out
for a prefilled in ./config); make menuconfig; make; make
modules_install; make install (I would do this manually but it could
go well for you).

check cat /proc/asound/* - if exists. Use Alsamixer (a text based
mixer with ASCII color with vertical sliders) and I believe alsacntl
save - check the README's in ALSALIB and ALSA-DEVICES.

Also it is important to configure the ./configure in each of the ALSA
sources to specify
special options some necessary for your card or integrated sound. I
used the --with-gnu-ld as much as possible, try to avoid --prefix=
stuff at first compile hoping that ALSA will find the libraries it
needs. Set as many -enables as you can.
./configure --help | more to step through available options
work out your configuration on a best effort attempt --enable arts, alsa, oss,
I have a feel for this and just try to enable everything I think will
compile on my distro.
It is trial and error compile runs though.

Good Luck,

I've used Slackware for a long time off and on - and though there have
been difficulties usually it was just my knowledge level - and lo and
behold there were files necessary in the extras or source which P.
Volkerding included with the distro in expectation of users advanced
problems.

Slackware usually has more compilers in it, including awk and sed,
perl, c, c++, glib of decent recent version and others.

Try Slack and you'll never go back.

Hi everyone a time ago i've got this problem, thanks for the answers .
I've solved the problem installing kubuntu gutsy with kernel 2.6.22.8,
the only problem now is the sound quality, at first i haven't got
sound. Adding the line "options snd-hda-intel model=3stack" in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base the problem was resolved, but the quality is
realy bad. Any idea for this issue. This is the sound card detected by
kubuntu:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High
Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)

thanks for the help.
