The problem with your kernel config is:

--------------
#
# ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support
#
CONFIG_IDE=y
--------------

You should remove IDE support and just let the SATA driver
handle everything (I've had trouble with DVD playback being
jumpy on Gentoo that was fixed by switching to the ICH7
driver instead of the generic PATA driver that can't do
DMA). The SATA driver for the ICH7 will also handle PATA.
The PIIX chipset option doesn't support the ICH7.

You'll find that your DVD drive becomes /dev/sr0 instead of
/dev/hdc and you may find /dev/cdrom becoming /dev/cdrom1
or something like that as well but it should enable DMA.
