A thoughtful test, but irrelevant to the issue. That's just reading
the header, not actually doing anything with the SRPM contents. Try
installing or running a rebuild with the SRPM: the extraction of a
recent Fedora compiled SRPM under RHEL 5 fails unless you have a
non-standard version of RPM, due to checksum failures at the time of
extraction.

I'm in the midst of rebuilding my test VM for CentOS 5: I'll let you
know tomorrow whether it works now.

None of the SRPM's could be rebuilt or extracted without using
rpm2cpio, which is a pain. Unless the SRPM build environment has been
rolled back to a considerably earlier Fedora or even RHEL release, the
problem will remain unchanged.
