Re: JPackage 6 on RHEL/CentOS 6

Among other things you seem to be interested in how the goals and
priorities are determined in JPP.
Such steering is certainly not done in some centralized manner.
Everyone of us (few) has his own motivations and procedures.
I may be able to report on what I usually am doing:
- within my work as a consultant, I am faced with Java software which I
  * must deal with
  * might need to deal with
  * would like to deal with
  * etc.
- I then usually do some quick first packaging along our guidelines
which include
  * package any open source build or runtime dependency 
  * patch out or omit non free dependencies as much as possible (e.g.
JAI may not be omitted in e.g. a GIS context)
  * run any unit and/or integration test and solve as much as possible
of the failures or errors
  * do the final build in a mock environment, validating the package
metadata
- from time to time recall the convenience of "releasing" some JPP#,
which (as already said) implies
  * making the release (highly) self contained
  * making it bootstrappable from scratch (i.e. with only the JDK
available)

Certainly this is a highly random environment. But we are volunteers.
Shouldn't we be?
