I'm not a member of the KDE SIG or anything, just a Fedora/KDE user, but I just want to list some of my points about the KDE4/KDE3 situation: - KDE4 is already a Fedora 9 feature and the packages are in Rawhide, going back would require quite some work, I believe. - Fedora is supposed to be a leading edge distribution and even if the desktop is not as nice as it could be, the underlying technologies do look quite promising. I think people are also looking forward to using KDE4 on Fedora 9. - If the KDE schedule holds, Fedora 9 would probably have KDE4.0.x only for a couple of months of the whole ~13 month cycle. - If Fedora 9 won't have KDE4 in release time, it probably can't have official KDE4 packages at all, during the whole 13 months, as going from KDE3 to KDE4 during an everyday yum update wouldn't probably be very nice to the users. (Well, maybe it could have KDE4 as a separate set of packages, after all..) - If someone doesn't want KDE4, they could always use Fedora 8 with KDE3, which will probably be supported until November 2008 or something like that. When Fedora 8 goes EOL, KDE4 in F9/F10 should already be at least as usable as KDE3. - As a side note, maybe kde-redhat could have unofficial KDE3 packages for Fedora 9 for those who want to use Fedora 9 but still stay with KDE3?
