if you had completed the sentence I'd written before interjecting the above 
reply, you'd have seen that I'd found the place to change session management 
preferences - that's not the issue - there used to be a menu item that would 
appear  at the bottom of the KMenu column (which of course no longer exists) 
when you set "Restore manually saved session" which allowed you to manually 
save a session once you had the current session set up the way you wanted 
it - next time you started KDE, it would return to that exact condition. It's 
the 'Save session' button that I don't see anywhere, now...

I've said I would stick with 4 for now, and hope for improvement

Sorry, but I'm not doing any naming, just making observations, and as I said, 
these are just a few, as I could state many others that I've found. My 
intention is not to hammer the developers and the effort. I shall spend time 
with this release, get to know it, get used to its new paradigms, wait for 
some bug fixes, and when I think I have really gotten some fluency, will 
contribute RFE's and bug reports
