Kernel OOPSes, when loading driver

I have an amd64 machine with a 2.6.12 kernel running.

I download the tar.gz package and do a make install.

hsfconfig builds the modules and then the kernel oopses, when loading
the driver

has anyone encountered similar problems or does anyone even has a
solution to that problem?
