Hi Steve,

In v1.5.0 we changed the installation a little so that we can install 
the same rmp on other distros (since Redhat puts their startup scripts 
on /etc/rc.d/init.d, and Suse wants their at /etc/init.d). I think the 
problem you see is probably the result of the change that we made above. 
However to be honest, I am not sure.

This is how our rpm (v1.5.0) places those start up scripts on the system

1. Stop the all evl daemons
2. Check if there is /etc/rc.d/init.d then it is a typical Redhat init.d 
location, create a link to /etc/init.d
3. Install startup scripts on /opt/evlog
4. cp start up scripts from /opt/evlog to /etc/init.d (which is now a 
link on Redhat system)


Looking at the output you sent to us, it looks like when you upgrade 
with rpm -Uvh

It did the following
1. Stop all evlog daemons
2. Install evlog bits
3. Start evlog daemons
4. Stop all evlog daemons
5. Uninstall evlog bits

4 and 5 should not happen, it shouls stop after 3 finished.

You could look at the evlog.spec in the section %pre %post %preun 
%postun for more detail, RPM is built base on this spec. They are very 
easy to understand (%pre = before  install bits, %post = after install 
bits, %preun = before uninstall bits, %postun = after uninstall bits).

I need to install and test it on the ia64 to find out why this happens 
(looks like an rpm bug on ia64).

Please let us know if you figure out why this happens :-)
