I forgot.... I am so used to serial consoles, sorry.

I have been able to reproduce the problem on my APU now. It appears to 
happen only when booting from a USB connected medium. I guess we have to 
look into the first invocation of mdev which should enable usb connected 
media unless those modules are not compiled into this kernel.
