Hi Folks for some reason the list manager keeps me off this list because it thinks I am offline because there were a number of bounces which never get reset. So here is my opinion about whatever issue you may have with upgrade, be it the webconf password or other. The upgrade command tries to be smart to keep your personal settings intact. It does this by comparing the the files marked as configuration files in the system, registering the changes between the currently running configuration file and the original (old) configuration file and trying to apply any changes to the newly installed configuration file. If everything runs fine, these changes are written to configdb. The main problem for this is that uplink the configuration file format changes frequently which leads to patching errors. The upgrade utility has a never used facility to handle such situations, it is called the post-upgrade script and it can handle situations that cannot be met by simpy comparing and patching. Unfortunately the LEAF project never had sufficient manpower to fully test such features. If the patching of the configuration file fails because the differences are too big or the file format has changes considerably this process fails and the corresponding files are written to the /tmp directory with hopefully reasonable names like .old .new and .current. It is the users responsability then to inspect these files and apply any changes manually. The upgrade process issues a warning at least on the command line. This at least is the state it used to be when I was still working on it. So much for artificial stupidity be it on the list manager or on the upgrade tool. So as I may never see this post myself please mail me directly if you have issues with this to erich.titl(AT)think.ch cheers ET -- „Wer von seinem Tag nicht zwei Drittel für sich hat, ist ein Sklave.“ ―Friedrich Nietzsche ------------------------------------------------------------------------ leaf-user mailing list: [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/leaf-user Support Request -- http://leaf-project.org/
