Well, gdm can run on X11 or wayland, and can launch a session on X11 or
Wayland. The problem I see (and I'd like to have some confirmation) is
that gdm _running_ on X11 cannot start... Once started (on wayland for
me) it can launch a session on any system.
Note that, not being an native English speaker, I may write non clear
sentences, so please feel free to propose something. Maybe I should
have separated the case of Nvidia (which is optional) and the case of
sysv (which really needs wayland AFAICS).
