Let me add that my understanding of the impetus for wayland is two-fold:
1. It is easier for programmers.
2. It provides faster presentation for some applications (e.g. games).
For BLFS the first item is not currently an issue. We just publish what
upstream provides. Xorg currently works just fine for the applications in the book.
That may change as I understand that both Plasma and GNOME are going to be wayland
only soon. It will be interesting to see if we will be able to run a wayland based
environment that can be accessed via something like tigervnc.
For the second issue, I cannot judge as I do not play any games or other
applications on my systems that need any additional capabilities beyond
what is provided by Xorg.
