glib-skip_warnings-1.patch: is it of any use at all?

I've always applied the above mentioned optional patch but never set the
accompanying variable GLIB_LOG_LEVEL to suppress unwanted warnings. But
although many programs use/need glib, the logs are _not_ flooded with
glib-related unwanted/superfluous messages.

So I'm wondering under what concrete circumstances or for what specific
programs the patch is of use. Thanks.
