Yep that did.  The massive hack of copying the Ubuntu firmware, for amdgpu,
EXACTLY to LFS worked.
And as a bonus suspend now works, which it didn't before.
So what is so different about Ubuntu's firmware?
It was compressed with zstd, but what else?
