Thanks Eric. The evidence would certainly seem to indicate you're correct! It
wasn't clear to me from the book that this was the case. Assuming LLVM is not
in fact installed, what should my next steps be? Do I need to rebuild rust
with the correct bootstrap.toml flags to point to LLVM-config? And then build
LLVM as written in the book?

As far as libglvnd, I don't know either, I'm out of my depth a bit here. I'm
building on a VM with no dedicated GPU, so I really don't need the nvidia
drivers. But since, I'm not quite sure which drivers I DO need, (nor how to
remove the other options when building the various applications), I just
installed all of them as written in the book.
