Thanks for the response, Randy. Yes, I am unfamiliar with desktop
environments, and have never built one from scratch. I've built LFS several
times over the years, so know what to expect there, more or less, and know how
to troubleshoot things. Being my first time going through BLFS, I'm unfamiliar
with the build process, since not all of the book is meant to be followed
linearly, as in LFS. To answer your questions:
1) I hand type everything, not copy paste. While prone to errors, it helps me
learn.
2) normally, I do spend time googling the errors. it is normally related to a
missing package or similar. For instance, when I built Rust the first time, I
carefully read the book, and the editor's note, which seemed to indicate that
LLVM would be installed as part of Rust, and indeed provides instructions for
updating the .toml file to do this. When I installed Rust this way, I found
that LLVM is not in fact installed in full, so I had to then remove Rust and
install the full LLVM package, and go back and (re)install Rust. Given that
neither rust nor LLVM are listed as dependencies for one another in the book,
it was unclear how I should proceed so I reached out here for guidance.

In short, I'm finding that in building chapter 24, there are dependencies that
are required but not listed (or at least not listed in a way that I can
discern), so I am coming here because there are fewer source on the 'regular'
internet for advice on how to follow the BLFS book, which is where my original
questions started.

I apologize if I've given the impression that I'm just pasting errors into the
mail list immediately, but that is not the case.
