I was reading the Puppy Linux forum and one of the members mentioned an
ArchLinux post (
https://www.archlinux.org/news/required-update-to-recent-libarchive/ )
about switching from xz to zstd. I checked my build of libarchive and
didn't notice any support for zstd. I'm still looking through the code,
but it looks like the zstd library ( https://github.com/facebook/zstd ) is
needed in order for libarchive to add in zstd support when built. I double
checked the BLFS entry (
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/svn/general/libarchive.html ) and
was surprised that it didn't mention zstd as an optional dependency.
Anyone using zstd format? Any thoughts on using it with libarchive or are
there other programs and libraries that are easier to work with if using
zstd compression/decompression? Thanks.
