Re using the Chapter 7 backup, I've built a 12.4 SystemV system using 
the 12.4 SystemD backup file with no problems. Doug is correct about the 
/etc/passwd and /etc/group files, but it amounts to the SystemD versions 
having additional entries specific to SystemD. All the required SystemV 
entries are still present, and the SystemD stuff has no effect in 
SystemV, and can be edited out if you like.

I guess going the other way round, it would be a simple case of 
overwriting the SystemV versions of the files with those for SystemD.
