I don't doubt that.  One of the big disadvantages of "Linux" is that there
are hundreds of incompatible systems out there that all use that name... :(

I doubt that the driver can be very badly misconfigured because so many
other things work.  Notably, it sends and receives packets, and wavemon
reports plausible information from the card.  In general, it works
much better than my old Linksys wpc-11-v.4-evil network card, though I
suspect most of the improvement really comes from using a vertically
polarized antenna.

I bought the card in late December, so I wouldn't expect there would be
new firmware available unless the vendor has some real problems with
old stock.

syslog indicates that the rmmod/modprobe steps occur automatically each
time I unplug/plug the pcmcia card.  To enable it, I use 
  wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable

Maybe something is fundamentally broken about wireless support in RH9
or linux 2.4.  I was wondering whether to buy a new disk for my
laptop and put Debian on it.  Maybe this is one more good reason to try
it.
