Have you set your appropriate wireless network name, possible encryption
key and so on in your /etc/network/interfaces file?

To get the 'link is not ready' message is normal - once the card is
configured for the wireless network you want to be on, you then get

ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlan0: link becomes ready
