------- Additional Comments From [email protected] 2005-04-06 09:05 ------- I think we have to consider the space that this admitted invention tries to be a solution in. This is in the packaging space, where I think there's general acknowledgement that things are different and will stay that way. We already had to invent some stuff, and we're finding that stuff isn't really enough but both here and for install_initd, the concept is: okay, there's no convergence and won't ever be, but people still need to install stuff. So provide a screen behind which the distro can do whatever is needed to make things right for that distro. It's really not even a new invention, it's a generalization of the install_initd invention based on what we're learning from it - we're still trying to get that right. Because of the state of Linux packaging there just doesn't seem to be any other option. No stable ABI/API: not really applicable. We're talking about a shell command line here. Push to get the distros to get together to fix: how's that going to work? This is supposed to be the forum in which that takes place, but it isn't taking place. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.linuxbase.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee.
