I suspect this is due to the fact that the monitor is incorrectly detected. 
 
I had the same problem with my IIYAMA A901HT ( 19" ) and I need to explicitely 
select it from the list is norder to have resolution above 800x600 ( 1280x024 
in my case )

I have tried MandrakeMove on several computers and it always seems that the screen 
resolution is not optimized.  For instance, on a Dell C400 with an Intel i810 chipset, the best 
screen resolution was 800x600, while the graphics card has the ability to hit 1024x768 and 
the LCD screen is optimized for that resolution.  Reports have shown that Knoppix uses the 
higher resolution, which is what would be expected of MandrakeMove.
