i tried to print to pdf 4 photos, i chose letter size and custom photo-size
set to 77x110 mm i got 3 photos on the first page and one on the latter.
I tried either cropping or not them with the same result.

Sorry i cannot reproduce your problem or maybe i cannot understand 
your steps to get it :/
