Re: Failure of rpmdrake/urpmi and other applications

Have you tried giving urpmi free rein and telling it to download
everything needed before starting installations.

urpmi --downloader wget --auto-update --auto --download-all /destination

If you have the disk space, this should provide the rpms needed, saved to
/destination or whever you specify, and you can use the rpm command itself
without the urpmi or drak* tools to install something if needed.  You can
also use the --test argument instead of the --download-all argument, as it
too will download the rpms and leave them in /var/urpmi/cache

There is no assurance this will provide a workaround, but perhaps it is
worth a try?

As another resort, use ftp or gftp to go to the mirror, find the
distribution, version and package you need, ftp that down, and use rpm to
install it.
