Hi,
I have spent a couple of hour figuring out why I was unable to log to my
KDE 4.4.3 session on my Mandriva 2010.1 (up to date).
Problem description :
-> Enter your login username / password in KDM
-> Everything seems to work fine, but I see no desktop, no icons, no
taskbar, ... I just see a blue image witch is probably the splash-screen.
-> KDE seems to be launched because I am able to unlog using
CTRL+ALT+SUP (and screensaver, notifications, ... are working)
Problem workaround :
-> In fact, KDE is launched normally, but it is hidden by the mandriva
splash screen !
The culpit program is the kde4-splash-mdv program which stays launched
and hide the KDE desktop.
-> To show your desktop, either kill "kde4-splash-mdv" logging as root
(CTRL ALT F1 -> root login -> killall kde4-splash-mdv)
OR
press CTRL + ALT + Echap and click on the desktop with the left mouse
button.
-> If you don't want to be bothered by this bug, simply remove the
program /usr/bin/kde4-splash-mdv
I don't know why this problem occurs and I don't have a real solution. I
will probably fill a bug report.
