The TurboPrint hp515x driver works fine with the HP6520 so I shall use 
that for image printing.   lpr behaves itself which is an indication 
that the hpcups driver is faulty, at least as far as the HP6520 is 
concerned.  HP would probably not be interested in fixing it for an old 
printer.  There may be too few to bother with.
