I believe you should be able to change your driver setting and use ati instead of fglrx and chenge your kde setting, then turn back to fglrx. In any case a "drastic" solution that should always work is to remove plasma configuration files from your home. Don't login in runlevel 5 (to be sure you can switch to runlevel 3 with init 3, but it's unnecessary) switch to a console login (ctrl-alt-f1 for instance) and log as root, i experienced some configuration file back logging in as me, and go to your home (cd ~yournick/.kde4/config) and run find . -name "*plasma*" | xargs rm Above command removes all *plasma* files so be sure not to be in the wrong filesystem position ;) Logout and login again in runlevel 5, good luck.
