updates failing

Just got home from vacation and attempting to install the updates that
are waiting. When running from the update icon the list of updates are
shown however when clicking update the next screen comes up but no files
are being downloaded. At the end the next screen says:

Installation failed, some files are missing:

and at the bottom of the list:

You may need to update your urpmi database.

I also see:

1 installation transactions failed

There was a problem during the installation:

...retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 7

When trying from MCC and selecting "update your system" the "updating
media" screen pops up but nothing is happening and as above all updates
fail. My DSL modem is working since I can use Firefox and I can also
monitor the connection and see it's working. Anyone with any
idea/suggestions?
