Just to clarify, the desktop, altair, is wired to the router and
accesses the internet via a cable modem.

ipp://192.168.11.5 returns "Printer not found" when CUPS sends a test page.

Tried ipp://localhost:9100/ipp/192.168.11.5 and the test page appeared
to be queued but nothing happened at the printer.

Back to the printer control panel to check networked computers and found
1. (open)
2. (open)
3. (open)
4. (open)
5. (open)
which implies that the printer does not know about altair, I think.
However there is no indication that altair is failing to check the
status of the printer. I am assuming it always requires a handshake to
continue. The printer's wireless icon led remains steady all the time.
Every now and again the status area at the bottom of the Firefox window
flashes up a progress bar for an instant as if it is resending the
data. At 30 megabytes/sec you would expect it to be quick.
This printer is designed to be used on a wireless network so it would
be a sorry day if I had to resort to a USB cable.
