USB... Some more results: sane-find-scanner found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [HP], product=0x8f11 [Photosmart Prem C310 series]) at libusb:007:005 # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage. There is no man page for hpaio. [root@canopus lcl]# scanimage -L No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages). So the problem seems to be that sane needs to be forced to use the hpaio backend. How to do that? I imagine it is something like xsane hpaio:/dev/what but what is "what"? There is no /dev/scanner* or /dev/usbscanner* The system works fine with an Epson Perfection scanner on USB and uses module scanner. Len
