If I have a problem with my HP I go to MCC -> hardware and remove the 
printer and then reinstall. It usually works. I would also try and 
install the driver as it may be unique to your printer even if hplip is 
installed. I was having trouble with my printer and was directed to 
check /etc/cups/ppd to see if a file for my printer was there.
