Normally when you plug in an HP printer Mandriva downloads whatever
software is needed and installs hplip and any missing drivers, or at
least it used to. Once hplip is there you should have hp-toolbox to
help manage your HP printer(s). You will have set up the queue(s) under
CUPS and hplip should know about them.

Before you boot the PC plug in the printer and switch it on - I have
sometimes had to restart the queue if the printer was switched on after
boot.
