Once hplip is there you should have hp-toolbox to help manage your HP printer(s). You will have set up the queue(s) under CUPS and hplip should know about them. Before you boot the PC plug in the printer and switch it on - I have sometimes had to restart the queue if the printer was switched on after boot.
