sound on 2009spring

I found out my new VOIP has an answering service that sends voice emails. So I tested the sound on this machine and it works but is so faint I can barely hear it. I checked all I could check but don´t see anything wrong. I am not sure the Kmix channel setter is set the right way ( (master) since I don´t know what the settings refer to.
