Gnome - some annoying windows behaviour

Hello,

Since a few weeks, perhaps due to an update (?), the new-window 
behaviour of Gnome has a strange habit.
New windows are either opened -behind- the current window (leaving focus 
on the current window), or the new window is on top (where I'd expect 
it) but the focus remains on the then underlying (originally current) 
window.

Does anyone else using Gnome notice that too?

Running Mandriva 2009.0 with Gnome 2.24.0 with all updates.

Of course I wonder if there is a fix for this, as this is very annoying...
