In view of all the problems I decided simply to download the latest
get_iplayer and run it from my own bin directory. The first problem was
no links on the BBC iPlayer site to a download. Everything ended up at
iPlayer Desktop so I had to google for the script. Found it at
LinuxCentre http://linuxcentre.net/getiplayer/download. So has the BBC
withdrawn support for get_iplayer by itself?

The good news is that the get_iplayer --get nnn command now works.
