Re: Mandriva 2010 SLOW

Many thanks for the suggestions; I had already tried some (removing Beagle for one) and as 
removing pulseaudio threatened to remove most of the desktop as well I decided on a complete 
reinstall.

Once I grasped the nettle it was fairly painless (apart from the hundreds of MB of updates 
to download and install from a somewhat reluctant ftp mirror) and thankfully this has cured 
the problem.  So still no idea what was actually wrong.  Just hoping that when I restart it 
again tomorrow it is still behaving.
