Yes. pavucontrol (launched from a terminal) shows all input devices, including the webcam.  However, they all have a permanent tickmark indicating that they are selected as fallback. By 'permanent' I mean there does not appear to be a way to remove the tickmark. Neither right click or doubleclick has any effect. The mute button works, but that is no help.

In any event, I don't really understand the term fallback in this context. It implies that there is another (primary) selection somewhere, and that the fallback selection only comes into play if this other thing does not happen.  What I want is of course for the webcam mike to be the primary choice, not the fallback.

Yes, I found it and installed it, thinking that I had finally found the holy grail, that it would let me choose the device I wanted.  But no.  None of the choices offered seems to have any bearing on what I want to do.

I also saw that the thing is obsolete, can't remember where i saw it, but it probably means one should not put too much faith in it.

Thanks for your help. I am getting to the point where I think the matter may not be worth pursuing.  After all, I can get by using the mike in the headset rather then the one in the webcam.  In time, software upgrades may take care of the problem.
