HELP! Mandriva 2010.0 Free reporting root ( / ) 100% full

Hello Mandriva people,

Firstly, I'd like to thank and congratulate the folk at Mandriva HQ
who have developed and documented and excellent OS -- I referring to
Mandriva 2010.0 Free 32 bit -- which I use.

Running the Disk Usage Analyser from the GNOME GUI, it reports this:

Total filesystem capacity 100% 913GB
Total filesystem usage 1.4% 12.7 GB

If I open a terminal shell and enter the command 'baobab' -- I was
getting an error, but now the command works and gives the same results
as above.

System Specs and History
--------------------------------

My system is only a few years old, and has quite good specs. I
deliberately purchased a pc with a lot of RAM and heaps of HDD space.
I think that the video card also has very good specs. I'm using my old
Dell monitor -- which is excellent. It's over 10 years old -- but
still performing very well.

Briefly, my system specs are:

Processor: Intel ?? (not sure, but fast) dual processor
HDD: 1 Tera byte
RAM : 4 GB RAM
DVD RW burner - Poineer brand
Floppy disk drive also.
5 USB ports
internet connection: Bigpond ADSL connected to Telstra phone socket.
Uses TP Link Ethernet 8 Port 10/100 Desktop Switch

Also connected to the Desktop Switch is HP Laptop via an ethernet
cable. The Laptop is running Linux Mint 8 (with latest updates)

Printer / Scanner / Copier:
HP PhotoSmart C4280 All-in-One is connected via a USB cable to the
desktop or laptop. I currently have the desktop configured correctly
with

System installation source:

1) Used a computer magazine live boot dvd for Linux Mandriva 2009 Free
32 bit (?) and booted off dvd then installed system.
2) Used for several months then did live online upgrade to Mandriva
2010 Free 32 bit
3) Used for several months and it worked pretty well. Had a few minor
problems. So I download the dvd iso image for the Mandriva 2010.0 Free
32 bit live boot dvd
4) Created Mandriva 2010.0 Free 32 bit live boot dvd and installed from it.

After each of the above steps I upgraded my system and installed
updates and installed various new software. Sometimes I let my head
get away from me and I would install software which I didn't really
want / need. Quite often I had problems deciding what exactly I needed
a what I didn't need.

For a long time I had a problem at wth the ACPID laptop battery
monitor being installed by default. Because this is a desktop and
doesn't have a battery this gave problems. There is a bug report and a
lot of discussion by myself where the problem appeared after step (1)
then I upgraded my system. Still had problem with acpid giving
problems. Eventually uninstalled acpid and after a while the problem
went away. After step (4) the acpid error reappeared then it was
uninstalled and resolved.

Also, I am using Firefox 3.5.8 for Linux Mandriva. Because I use 4
different gmail accounts for web-based emails, I decided to try out
gmail's offline mail browser. This involves using Firefox to install
the plugin 'Code Gears' via firefox. Basically, when you try to enable
gmail's offline browser it checks whether the Code Gears plugin is
installed. If not, you download it and the plugin attempts to install.
This gives an error in Firefox 3.5.8 and 3.6. Same error! The plugin
installer complains that Firefox has been compiled with a old version
of the GCC compiler.

Also, 'make' was not installed by default on my system (apparently).
Why has this essential program been overlooked ?!?

I have installed 'make', the latest version of GCC and Firefox 3.6.
Also, Lazarus 0.9.28.3, Free Pascal compiler (latest stable ver),
Subversion, RapidSVN and bunch of other stuff. This has been over a
4-6 week period after step (4) and upgrading my system.

What I'd really like to do is create a live boot dvd with the latest
version of the Mandriva 2010.0 Free 32 bit OS, based on my current
system. I can create CD-R or DVD-Rs or even DVD-RW versions. Note that
I don't like to use DVD-RWs because my experience with them is
limited. But I can create them and store data okay -- but the only
time I tried to erase one I used to reuse it - it became useless. I
have no problem with creating boot CD-Rs or boot DVD-Rs. I can even
create bootable dvd-rw's but I don't believe they're as reliable as
ordinary DVD-R's. (note that I'm using the generic term DVD-R, whereas
my drive is a DVD+/-RW).

How can I create a bootable live dvd based on my current system???
which is running well... apart from the 100% root filesystem problem.
I expect that this will not be too hard to fix.

Also, I did have drakbackup incorrectly configured to create full
system backup to a folder on the HDD. At one point I had experienced a
HDD 100% full error and discovered that the was some very large files
in the /var/lib/drakbackup/ folder. The last time it happened I was
able to cd into the folder a use the 'rm' command with some parameters
I forget to delete those large backup* files. One was 660GB and
another was 110GB approx... plus there was about 3 - 5 smaller ones.

I have now configured drakbackup to NOT created full backups and there
is not any kind of backup scheduled.

Thank you in advance. I trust that this won't be too difficult to
resolve as my system is otherwise healthy and up-to-date. Apparently.
