Rick,
Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply.

It does build OK and work, after following the suggestions from RickS, 
apart from the problem with linking to the soundcard which I am 
evidently getting wrong.

Why build it?  Because I hadn't found anything else, so I will now 
investigate Fldigi.
