X display in 2010.2

I've got a small problem here with the X display being totally black.  I
don't see any of the icons that should be on the screen and, when I start up
Mozilla, the only thing visible is the top bar.

I seem to remember that there was an issue with the X server at one time and
I wonder if it's manifesting itself again.
